Google slides course
Tools - Google Slides
Client - Bucks LEA
Constraints -
Time - course to be delivered in 1 week.
Budget £0
Shift patterns of employees
Role - Instructional Designer and Trainer
Challenge
Staff were used to doing presentations using Smart Board software but these needed to be downloaded and uploaded to Google Drive, the VPN was struggling with so many people accessing the system, so everyone needed to be able to use Google Slides to work more efficiently and collaboratively.
Solution
As staff all worked on site an instructor-led course on how to use Google slides was created and delivered with a slide deck template so each learner could test out what they were learning. The presentation followed Gagne's 9 events of instruction with Content - Guidance - Practise
Result
All staff were able to create attractive and more interactive presentations using Google slides.
Follow up - One downside of Google slides was the inability of being able to write on the smart boards used during presentations. I found a Google add-on called 'Annotate' which allows this to happen. The staff were shown how to use this during a later session.
Research Analysis
Google slides form for quick data gathering from learners
Script
Script was written when it was possible the course would need to be recorded but luckily it was able to go ahead in person.
Slides for Training
Slide deck for trainer to use with notes added for presenter mode. As the animations would be added during the training to demonstrate to the learners, the slide deck was kept intentionally simple.
A second slide deck for the learners to use as a template was also created.
